During September last year and February this year, several facilities for handling steel sheets up to 25 metres long and weighing up to 20 tonnes were installed and commissioned at the largest steel group in Asturias.
One of the facilities is equipped to handle metal sheets at high temperatures, up to 600ºC.
The installations consist of 7 or 9 electromagnets, depending on the crane and the characteristics of the sheet metal to be handled. All electromagnets have identical dimensions, 300 x 1600 mm, and are specially designed for this task. High-temperature sheet metal magnets are also manufactured with a heat shield to protect the coil from the intense heat of the load and with special electrical insulation.
The installations are completed with state-of-the-art electrical power supply and control equipment, with an electromagnet selection system and a Ni-Cd emergency battery system, capable of maintaining the load raised for an average of 20 minutes in the event of a power failure.
Likewise, the electrical equipment supplies the magnets with constant intensity, which allows us to maintain the same level of force throughout all working hours.
Finally, it also incorporates a continuous control system for all the installation’s variables, allowing us to monitor surge levels, overcurrent, magnet temperature, etc. at all times, in order to guarantee the condition and availability of the entire installation at all times.
